The Interpreters and Translators Unit – Canadian Freelance Union (ITU-CFU) is launching a campaign to raise the hourly rates for Ontario-based community interpreters from $25 to $45 per hour. The sector has experienced pressure to decrease rates due to contract bidding and other factors. Unlike interpreters in different sectors, Community Interpreters work in conditions that leave them isolated and face challenges in organizing and defending their collective rights.
